The AWFN was the brainchild of keen amateur wildlife photographer and filmmaker Jason Alexander. From a very early age Jason had a profound fascination and deep respect for wildlife and took every opportunity to get out into the fresh air to explore the wonders of nature that surrounded his home. But, as with many of us, modern life soon took over - getting a job, getting married, buying a home, raising a family - it's a familier tale, but that love of the natural world lingered on. Jason continues the story in his own words..... "I was happily married, had a beautiful son and a good career (Founding partner of www.gardenature.co.uk) but all this didn't leave much time to unwind and do many of the things I longed to do. I had a real craving to get outside and start filming or photographing wildlife. Whether it was simply spending time in my garden with my camcorder or travelling to some of the wonderful places you read about or see on TV, I needed to do something. So I started to research my new hobby. What equipment to use, how to use it, where to film; the list grew and grew! In fact it grew to the point where I was spending so much of my free time researching I had little time to actually do anything. And that's where the idea for the AWFN came from. I wanted to create a global network bringing together keen amateur wildlife filmmakers and photographers from across the world and provide them with a single focal point of information to help them spend less time worrying about how to film/photograph, what to film/photograph and where to film/photograph and more time actually filming or taking photos!" After months of planning and hard work Jason was able to realise that goal and created the Amateur Wildlife Filmmakers Network (AWFN). This website forms the hub of the AWFN network and is the focal point for our members. The site is continually evolving offering a wealth of invaluable information about wildlife filmmaking, photography and watching wildlife in general. We love to meet new people and share your wildlife adventures, so don't delay, come and join us today! |
