Hungry Stoat
Hungry Stoat
by Mr Paul Edwards
Spring 2010 Photo Competition - 2nd place.
I heard a rustling in the hedgerow and the powerful squawking of a Blackbird, which had hoped onto the lane attracting the attention of the Stoat, presumably looking for the bird's nest. The Stoat chased the bird around in circles and down the lane right towards me; the Blackbird seemed to be saying catch me if you can!
Emerging Dragonfly
by Ms Kate MacRae
Spring 2010 Photo Competition - 3rd place.
This dragonfly emerged from my pond in late summer. I took a series of photos, but this is the one I liked best, as you can clearly see both the nymph case and the emergent adult.
I placed a plain piece of paper behind the shot to isolate the wing detail which was lost in the foliage. I used a Sigma DG Macro lens and tripod on my Canon 40D.
